Mobile Web Pages
I was speaking to an entrepreneur recently about the services we provide and how we could possibly help her accomplish some new web initiatives.
This young lady proceeded to launch her present website on her smart phone. The design of the “desktop” version of her phone was phenomenal. However, on the mobile phone it just did not work. So I went on to explain that just because you can see your site on a mobile phone doesn’t mean it’s mobile-friendly.
A Mobile Web Page is simply your run of the mill website that has been formatted so that it will appear properly on mobile devices (smart phone or tablet).
Like any website, mobile websites can display text content, data, images and video. They can also access mobile-specific features such as click-to-call (to dial a phone number) or location-based mapping (think Google Maps). Using responsive design, we can make the mobile version of your website a phenomenal experience for user.
Mobile Web Apps
There are over 4.2 billion mobile devices worldwide, and 82% of those users conducting mobile searches do so at least one time per week.
Large businesses are beginning to fulfill the mobile user’s needs with mobile-friendly websites, but small and medium-sized businesses have been slow to follow the demand of their customers, erroneously believing their customers won’t mind making adjustments on their smart phones to adapt to unfriendly sites.
But 57% of mobile users report they would not recommend a business that doesn’t have a mobile site, leading to more lost revenue.
A mobile web application is one that has an icon on your device, BUT much of the functionality is web based. Meaning that it will often have to communicate with a web server for data and other functions.
With that said though there are many benefits to going the mobile web app route, chief among them the costs. If the cost of getting your idea developed is cause for concern, then it’s more effective to have a mobile web app developed versus a native app. Additionally, because of the technology involved, a mobile web app can run on any device, with a few limitations.
